Notes regarding Gospels and Acts Carpet Pages:

The carpet pages represent very quiet and gentle designs intending to slow down the reader. They also assist in minimizing the show through of the frontispieces on the next page. They mark the end of each Gospel, with the next page having the full page, colorful illumination.

The original work, with a small one-third page decoration at the end of Matthew has white crosses within inked squares accented by small squares of gold. The difference between the original and the printed version other than size is the way in which the small gold squares are represented. The printed version does not give you the gold-leaf brilliance, but otherwise accurately represents the original.

The full page decorations at the end of Mark and John are similar, with some additional very quiet color and additional white crosses.

The tree of life at the end of Luke is a faint green on a bed of white crosses.

Be assured that these are not printing errors. Donald Jackson chose the color/printing/production expert, who was on the press at the time of printing in order to assure the very best possible reproduction.
